What are the Requirements on How to Make Organic Products
Learning how to make organic products is becoming increasingly popular and is carried in many major department stores, shopping malls as well as most grocery stores which make up 1-2 percent of total food sales. Most organic products are grown in much smaller areas than conventional products. With regard to organic food the USDA has provided seals to organic farmers and food processor which verify the items are organic. The government designed the criteria that must be followed in order to claim your products are organic. The government requires that companies producing and selling organic products or if you want to learn how to make organic products you must have the products verified and conform to the USDA regulations. Products that have been certified by an NSCOA approved certifying agency may display the terms certified organic, certified organically grown, certified organically raised or certified organically produced.
USDA and Regulations
According to the USDA, if you want the opportunity to place the organic seal on your food items and products you are prohibited from using irradiation on food items. Sewage sludge and genetically modified organisms are also not allowed in the process of producing organic foods. Organic means that fruits, nuts, seeds or other ingredients are grown without the use of any pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, genetically modified organisms, sewage sludge, or ionizing radiation and that organic meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products come from animals that are given no antibiotics or growth hormones.
How to make organic products is divided into four categories based on the percentage of organic substances that is found in a product. The official USDA organic seal can be placed on products if the products have been certified as 100% organic. Products that contain, at minimum 95 per cent organic substances regarding their weight not including water and salt content are allowed to wear the organic seal and wait a three year transitional period before these products can use the word “organic” on their label.
Producers of items that contain, a minimum of 70% of organic substances have the choice of putting a label on their goods that states “Made with Organic” and they have the opportunity to mention up to three substances contained in the product. Products that contain less than 70% of organic substances are allowed by the USDA to list the organic substances on the ingredients label on the product but there are prohibited from placing the word organic on the main label. Make sure you read the labels if you are looking for truly organic products that have no harmful chemicals.
